Yellow billed hornbill close up

USE THE TAMENESS OF THE ANIMALS

Personally I have a soft spot for the eyelashes of this yellow billed hornbill. The elephant and the giraffe obviously come in second place, but these eyelashes take the cake!

Newbie Tip:

You often see the yellow billed hornbills flying around near the roads. Opportunistic as they are, they look for dead insects and fallen fruit. Such a flat road makes searching a lot easier! Photographing them there is often a difficult task, they are shy and fly away quickly. Because you shoot diagonally from above, the angle is often far from it
ideal.
At the rest camps in the national parks of Africa, however, they are often used to people feeding them, consciously or not, or spilling their food. These are the best places to get close to them. Often a short telephoto lens is more than enough for a head portrait.

Pro Tip:

If you sit quietly in 1 place or lie near where spilled food is, they often come to you by themselves. With slow motion movements you can then focus quietly while they are very close to you. In exceptional cases, even extreme close-ups are possible with a macro lens. Pay attention to your position in relation to the sun so that there is enough light
on the side where you shoot. This way you can keep your ISO low and still keep shooting by hand.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
