Before putting together my workshops, I listened carefully to the wishes and needs of the market. After an inventory of these points, the ball was in my court. It was up to me to ensure that the way I deliver the workshops actually meets the expectations of the participants in these workshops.
Frequently heard comments were things like: “the workshop leader takes a lot of photographs himself“, “poor preparation“, “learned little“, “uninspiring" and "moderate price-quality“.
That surprised me, because wouldn't it be logical that as a professional supervisor you pay maximum attention to your students? It therefore goes without saying that the images in this message were not taken during the workshops.
Since there is no quality mark for photographers, the challenge lies with me to leave a perfect first impression and thus create my own market among the enormous range of workshops. The most valuable advertising is and remains the personal recommendation!
Key points that I focus on during the workshops are:
- Personal attention
- Small groups (maximum 8 people)
- Knowledge transfer without withholding information
- Offer topics that I am familiar with
- If possible, a thorough theoretical presentation that clarifies and inspires
- A good lunch and/or picnic, because taking pictures on an empty stomach is difficult
So far all feedback has been more than positive and I now know that my concept is rock solid. So I will continue with this!
Is everything really perfect? Not that either. There is one point that I should pay more attention to; What is self-evident to me may be (still) unclear to someone else. Asking for feedback in due time during the explanation is now noted in the black book ;-).
All in all, I look back on a wonderful series of workshops. It is a wonderful feeling to notice that you have been able to inspire the participants and that I know that they will work with this new knowledge and inspiration in the future.
There is quite a lot of demand for a lightroom and/or photoshop course. This will certainly form part of the basic program in 2018.
I also think that there are many opportunities for creative techniques in the spring and summer. This theme will certainly be continued in seasons other than autumn.
If you read this article BEFORE the second week of November 2017 and would like to take another creative autumn photography workshop in 2017, please send me an message. If autumn has a nice finale in store for us and there is enough interest, I would like to include an extra workshop!
It was really cool! A heck of a workshop! Thnx!
