Master class Light painting.
Evening and night photography has few secrets for you, but you are looking for opportunities to add something of yourself. By means of a light paint you can control the environment in the dark and you create your own reality. During this workshop you will get to work in a more than inspiring environment; the Ravesteyn estate. The original castle on this estate was built in the 13th century, so it is a historic place! The current ruin is located in a private garden of no less than 5 hectares and this environment forms the backdrop for this masterclass.
This workshop is given by Mike Muizebelt, author of the expert course Lightpainting, as it was in the leading photography magazine Zoom.nl
You can find more of his work here: "Lightpainting - Creating a frozen moment of your creativity"
This masterclass is given outside and in the dark, so it can be a bit chilly or windy. In addition, there are no paved paths in the garden of the Ravesteyn estate. So do you realize that before you book this workshop! However, with the right clothing this should not be a problem, I often wear several layers and a windbreaker during my nightly sessions. Sturdy shoes and dark clothing are recommended! The workshop will be moved to another date if the conditions are really too wet or turbulent.
For this workshop Saturday June 25 planned, this day falls shortly after the longest day and is therefore extra special. Twilight lasts no less than 1 hour and 30 minutes. A longer twilight means, among other things, a slightly longer blue hour.
We start the workshop with a good piece of theory on the island of this estate. The materials that can be used in this form of photography are discussed in detail.
What works well, what works less, but above all: HOW do you use these materials. In addition to Mike's own tubes, you also use a number of technical resources from Nanlite to further shape the environment to our liking. Think of Pavotubes of various sizes and light intensities, projectors, gobos and color gels.
Correct lighting of the environment AND your work of art is a requirement for a successful photo. So we are constantly looking for the right balance in your exposure and of course you also learn how to find the right balance.
You will receive active instructions in adjusting the light intensity, distances, shutter speeds and aperture & ISO settings. That is why this workshop is not only suitable for so-called light painters, it is ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about light!
After the theory, we first get to work together, we analyze the surroundings of the castle and determine which composition we want. We then place all the lamps in order to get an atmospheric lighting. A process that will continue during the blue hour until we have finally made a top image. After this we will experiment with variations and alternative lighting. A model will be available for this first part.
Then you get to work yourself and will Mike Muizebelt assist you with advice and deed. You work in groups of 3 people and each group receives a fixed set of attributes. You are your own model and it's a perfect opportunity to test your own materials (or even make a nice image of yourself in action!)
- A flashlight with a white tube and a colored tube
- A Nanlite Pavotube 6C
- A choice from the "mystery box"
With the 5-hectare garden of the estate and the castle as a playing field, you get complete freedom to get started yourself. You will of course receive advice and additional theory from Mike to create a good lightpaint yourself.
Photo United's service does not stop after the workshop. You will have access to our private Facebook group, where we share the latest news and tips. It is also the place where you can find new inspiration and you can show your images to other students for feedback.
