Remembering Rhinos
Last week the exhibition of the Remembering Rhinos campaign opened at “La Galleria Pall Mall” in London. Margot Raggett from Remembering Wildlife After a successful Kickstarter campaign, had produced another fantastic book, of which 100% of the proceeds will benefit the global protection of rhinos.
Photos from 65 of the world's best wildlife photographers have made available for this book. Some well-known names include Steve Winter, Art Wolfe, Frans Lanting and Jonathan & Angela Scott. I also had the honor to be part of this group of photographers.
In addition to the support of supplying one of my images, I also wanted to make a more personal contribution. That's why I traveled last week to attend the opening of the exhibition and the launch of the book at the Royal Geographical Society.
Since the launch of the Remembering Rhinos project, more than £115,000 has been raised for the protection of the species. An overwhelming success and I hope that this initiative will be followed in the future.
The book itself is an icon for the rhino species and the design and finish are truly fantastic. Not only do you contribute to the protection of this species by purchasing this book, you also have a timeless document in your hands! You can order via special website
During the very well-attended opening of the exhibition, where half of the images were sold immediately, I was able to exchange many ideas with those present. It is very nice to see that there are so many people who are continuously committed to a world where nature conservation comes first. Your confidence in humanity will get a big boost!
The day after the opening of the exhibition there was a VIP evening at the Royal Geographical Society. This Royal Geographical Society is a British scientific society. Especially in the 19th century and early 20th century, this society supported and financed a number of well-known British explorers and expeditions. Very special to know that famous explorers such as Charles Darwin, David Livingstone, Richard Francis Burton, Robert Falcon Scott and Edmund Hillary also walked around this building.
For me personally, Johan Marais' presentation of Saving the Survivors was very impressive. Even the toughest guy in the room couldn't keep a dry eye during his presentation. What a hero!
But Steve Winter's work and the attention and action it generated regarding animal protection was also top-notch.
For the 21 participating photographers present, the break was a great moment to sign the books of the guests present. I estimate that a total of about 3 to 4,000 signatures have been signed. Fantastic to see that the book was purchased in such large numbers on this evening!
